jan 1, 1947 - Taft-Hartley Act

Description:

Amended the Wagner Act after WWII had boosted the economy. It put restrictions on union activity such as strikes, making it so unions had to give 50 days notice before a strike, a significant step backwards for workers rights. It 'protected' non-union workers but limited the power of unions.

President Truman was against the Act and tried to veto it. The move was Congress trying to reassert itself after a period of it being in the Presidents shadows. It was slightly going back to the attitudes of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act.
