During practice for the iconic "Quick Draw Shootem" trick, Thalassa Gramarye was accidentally shot. To protect the Gramarye name, Magnifi Gramarye covered up the incident and sent Thalassa, who now suffered from amnesia and blindness, to live in the nation Borginia. Despite retiring sometime after, Magnifi began to blackmail his remaining students Zak and Valant Gramarye using the accident.
