Description:
In the 1850s, Japan was forced to sign unequal treaties by Western nations. In order to win recognition from the Western powers and to change the unequal treaties, Japan changed its entire legal system and adopted a new criminal civil code which was modeled by Western countries such as France and Germany. In 1894, Western nations agreed to revise the treaties signed in the 1850s.
