The Paris Peace Conference was a monumental moment for Canadian independence. It involved the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, the treaty that ended the First World War. Originally Britain planned on having 1 representative sign on behalf of all the British colonies. When Canadian Prime Minister Robert Borden heard this plan, he was outraged, as he believed it demonstrated that the colonies fighting under Britain had no independence. Borden fought hard and earned Canada an individual signature on the treaty. Many Canadian citizens were ecstatic over the treaty, as it meant the end of the fighting. This displayed Canada’s significant advances toward independence, creating significant progress in Canadian society.
