Federalist Papers (Hamilton, Madison, Jay) -> written to gain public support for Constitution

Bill of Rights -> put in to ease nerves of Anti-Federalists (directly stated rights)
1) freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly
2) right to a militia
3) no quartering of soldiers
4) no unreasonable search and siezures
5) protection against self-incrimination, due process
6) right to a speedy trial
7) trial by jury in Civil Cases
8) no cruel and unusual punishment
9) rights kept by the people
10) reserved powers of the states

Separation of Powers (3 branches)

Federalism

Presidents NOT directly elected by voters (prevent a tyrant -> electoral college -> popular vote is supposed to guide electoral college -> state legislature chooses electors -> everyday uneducated don't have say -> prevents mob rule)

Elastic Clause

Article 6: Supremacy Clause (nat. gov. can overrule state laws)
