Ended WWI
France, Italy, England, and the US met to negotiate (losers of the war weren't invited)
US only brings Democrats to the signing of the treaty, infuriating Republicans
Wilson wants to add his fourteen points but has to compromise with the other nations by blaming Germany
Germany takes full blame of the war (they were the most powerful loser and fought the most)
Creates the League of Nations and Article X of the League (its members will stand at the ready if a member nation's sovereignty is being threatened)
Views on the treaty were split in America (some agreed, some wanted the ability to leave the League and the international acceptance of the Monroe Doctrine, and some opposed the treaty altogether)
Partial cause for WWII (revenge of Germany)
New borders for Poland, Finland, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia)
US rejects the treaty and the League of Nations (shows how weak the League was)
Because the US doesn't join the League, it was weakened from the start
