The Aura Phase- Fish first started to withdraw from reality at a young age specifically when he was with the telephone boy, and again when he was at the wax museum with the bisected penis.
The Trolling Phase- Fish had many different schemes to attract young kids and was a master manipulator. He specifically found and chose weak targets such as the "intellectually disabled" boy.
The Wooing Phase- Fish wooed his victims by being charming and presentable for example he went to the Budd's house and not only agreed to hire Edward but also got the Budd parents to agree to let 10 year old Grace leave with Fish unsupervised.
The Capture Phase- Fish's capture phase was largely apart of the wooing phase because most of his victims were children, all he had to do to effectively capture them was to get them alone and out of public sight.
The Murder Phase- Fish's most intense part of the cycle, he mutilated, tortured, raped, and eventually killed his victims. He openly admitted to doing most or all of these in all his murders in his confession.
Totem Phase- Although Fish didn't really take physical trophies he did dwell on the thoughts and memories, even writing them on paper and leaving them out at his apartment.
Depression Phase- If Fish did exactly as he claimed to and actually murdered over 400 people that wouldn't leave much of a time for a depression phase inbetween the murders. However the 3 confirmed murders are spaced apart by more than a year each time. In-between the confirmed murders Fish was seldom heard from changing his identity multiple times and moving across state lines multiple times as well.
