mar 1, 1898 - Marie and Pierre Curie
Description:
Marie Curie (1867-1934) hearing about Henri Becquerel’s discovery of radioactivity in uranium, wanted to learn if more elements possessed this same characteristic of radiation. She found, within days, that thorium had the same properties of radioactivity. She quickly discovered that the level of radioactivity was determined by the amount of the element present in the compound and thus that radioactivity is dependent on the element itself and not how it is arranged.
