jan 1, 430 BC - Democritus
Description:
In 430 BCE, Democritus officially named the atom as atomos, meaning indivisible. Similar to Leuscippus, Democrius believed that atoms were uniform, hard, solid, incompressible, and indestructible as they moved in infinite numbers through empty space until they were stopped. Additionally, he believed that differences in the atomic shape and size of atoms determined its properties.
