jan 10, 1776 - Common Sense
Description:
Written by Thomas Paine and published anonymously in early 1776, Common Sense was a pamphlet advocating for independence from Great Britain and argued against the monarchy. It was incredibly successful and widely circulated, partially because it was very plain and easy to read. Radical ideas were defended and explained so that ordinary people could understand.
By gaining public support for breaking away from Great Britain, Common Sense made the way for the Declaration of Independence and built a reserve of morale and passion for the coming fight.
