Description:
The First Fleet was a group of 11 ships, led by Captain Arthur Philip. The 11 ships were containing around 1400 people, mostly made up of convicts. They left Portsmouth, England on the 13th of May, 1787. They arrived in Australia on January the 19th and 20th, 1788, in Botany Bay, NSW. They were the first people to found a European colony in Australia. Most of the people on the first fleet survived the journey.
People on the First Fleet consisted of women, children, men, workers, military officers, government officials and babies.
The colony at Botany Bay was a meant to be a penal colony.
