After a reign of more than 63 years, Victoria was the only monarch who had ever ruled during the lifetimes of most Britons. She had continued to conduct official business less than two weeks before her death. At the time of her death, the Queen was survived by six children, 32 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
