Producers begin to engage in self censorship in order to appeal to higher classes. They began sourcing their material from more literary, historical, and biblical sources. Between 1907 and 1911 over 40 films were released by Vitagraph based on the works of William Shakespeare, Edgar Allen Poe, Charles Dickens, and various other poets, playwrights, and writers.
