mar 31, 1774 - Intolerable Acts (Coercive Acts)
Description:
The Intolerable (Coercive) Acts of 1774 were a series of four laws passed by the British Parliament to punish the colony of Massachusetts Bay for the Boston Tea Party.
The four Intolerable Acts included:
- Boston Port Act: Boston Harbor was closed to trade until the owners of the tea were compensated.
- Massachusetts Government Act: An act to better regulate the government of the province of the Massachusetts Bay.
- Administration of Justice Act
- Quebec Act (one of the data points in the timeline)
These acts showed the colonists that what happened in Massachusetts could happen anywhere. As a result, an intercolonial conference was called.
