mar 18, 1766 - Declaratory Act
Description:
The passage of the Declaratory Act was passed on the same day as the repeal of the Stamp Act.
Even though the Stamp Act was revoked, the Declaratory Act was put into place so the colonists didn't get the idea that the Parliament had given up their power.
The Declaratory Act had the intention of "stifling all differences by the establishment of an undeniable principle" that Parliament had the constitutional power to legislate for the colonies.
The Act made it clear that the Parliament still had full power and authority to make laws in order to bind the colonies and the crown of Great Britain.
The colonists were not too worried about this Act, and didn't take any measures to resist it until the revolutionary crisis.
