nov 1, 2019 - 2019 Australian Wildfires

Description:

The Australian Wildfires of the summer of 2019-2020 were unprecedented for their time, burning up and down the entire inhabited eastern coast for effectively five straight months. Continuous wildfires of this kind had no record or comparison in recent memory, but after this seemingly one off calamity a disturbing pattern would emerge.

Following Australia's devastating fire season, a similar happening would take place in the protected Amazon Rainforest, also lasting months at a time and decimating suburb after suburb and acre after acre. Then the same occurred in California. Then in Greece. Then in Portugal. Then in South Africa. Then in Maui Hawaii. And on and on and on. In hindsight, the 2019 Australian wildfires are far from the deadliest or most destructive blazes of the last few centuries. But they were the first of their kind. And unfortunately far from the last.
