Wally West was the original Kid Flash, sidekick and partner of Barry Allen, the Flash of the Silver Age. When Barry gave his life to save the Multiverse in the Crisis on Infinite Earths, Wally West inherited the mantle of The Flash, and carried it on for decades, honoring Barry's legacy while forging his own. When Barry Allen returned to life during the Final Crisis, the two reunited, and went on to share the mantle of The Flash, along with Jay Garrick, their Golden Age counterpart. However, that all changed after Flashpoint, when Barry Allen altered the timeline by trying to prevent his own mother's murder in the past, and then subsequently tried to fix his mistake, to debatable degrees of success. When this reboot occurred, Wally West, along with various other heroes such as the Justice Society of America and the Legion of Superheroes, became trapped in a temporal limbo of sorts, where they would remain for years. Wally came close to escaping multiple times, but could only ever manage to briefly contact those he knew in the past timeline, before being sucked back into the limbo. It was on his last attempt before he would be completely erased from time that Wally was finally able to be pulled out of his prison, when he appeared before Barry Allen to say his final goodbyes to the man who took him under his wing an entire timeline ago. Unexpected to both Flashes, Barry suddenly remembered Wally, allowing him to be pulled out of his limbo, causing the two Flashes to embrace as the memories of timelines long lost came rushing back to Barry. After catching up, Wally explained to Barry the reasoning behind the drastic changes to the timeline that occurred after Flashpoint. According to Wally, a mysterious force had entered the DC Universe long ago and had begun tampering with the timeline, choosing the Flashpoint as the perfect opportunity to do so, as the timeline's unstable nature during such a reality-altering event would leave it vulnerable to outside influences. It would later be revealed that the culprit behind this tampering would be none other than Dr. Manhattan, who had traveled from his own Watchmen Universe to the DC Universe on a pure whim. As for Wally West, the trauma he suffered while in limbo would eventually cause him to have a nervous break which resulted in the deaths of many heroes and colleagues. While he would be voluntarily incarcerated for his crimes for a short time, he would eventually be given a chance at redemption when the burden of fixing the fractured timeline was placed upon him.
