Description:
On January 10, 1901, the Lucas Geyser blew a stream of oil 100 feet in the air. The oil flowed for 9 days until it was finally controlled. An estimated 100,000 barrels of oil a day came out of the gusher. After the news of oil in Beaumont, the town's population went from 10,000 to 50,000 nearly overnight.
