jan 1, 1573 - Lázarillo Castigado
Juan López de Velasco
Description:
The interruption of its successful publishing course was caused by
its being listed in the 1559 Spanish Index Librorum Prohibitorum. Proscription
precluded publication until the text was edited by Juan López de Velasco, who
removed some of its blasphemous sentences and passages, including chapters
4 and 5 in their entirety. López de Velasco’s version is known in Spanish
as Lazarillo castigado, and it was published in Madrid in 1573 in a volume
containing also Bartolomé de Torres Naharro’s Propaladia (first edition, 1517).
