jan 1, 1898 - Puero Rico becomes U.S. territory
Description:
Puerto Rico was originally under colonial rule of Spain. Due to the Spanish-American war, Spain would hand over some of its territories in its control. This land handed over would include Puerto Rico. Today Puerto Rico is not an official state but its citizens are granted U.S citizenship allowing for back and forth migration.
