Description:

After the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed which annexed southwestern territories to the US, the area of California became a free state in accordance with the Compromise of 1850 which aimed to maintain balance of power between slave states and free states. Women in charge of this movement were also abolitionists.
