there was a group of people protesting about food shortages and consumer product prices and then a trade union called solidarity it became the first independent labor union in a Soviet-bloc country. Solidarity gave rise to a broad, non-violent, anti-communist social movement and it had about 9.4 million people in the union it was also a big help to ending communism in December 1989 the polish government suppressed the union .
