jan 1, 1630 - On shakespeare I John milton, published
Description:
contained in one stanza. It may be considered a sonnet, due to its rhythmic nature and composition.
It talks about different monuments made to remember Shakespeare and his greatness, but criticizes them, saying that some poets are immortal through their works, and their works alone are a fitting monument which gives them immortality, and all the superficial ones, such as arranging his bones in a pyramid shape or building memorials or such is just not necessary in this case because he is so great.
Milton chose to structure this piece as an iambic pentameter, Shakespeare’s favorite pattern.
