jan 1, 1974 - A dog has died I Pablo neruda, published

Description:

PUBLISHED A YEAR AFTER BRO DIED
Pablo Neruda (1904-1973) was a Chilean poet-diplomat and politician who won the 1971 Nobel Prize in Literature. Neruda became known as a poet when he was 13 years old, and wrote in a variety of styles.

It is a eulogy for Neruda’s dead dog Chu-Tuh, exploring its personality and interactions with its owner. It is an eulogy - a mournful, melancholy, or plaintive poem, especially a funeral song or a lament for the dead. In the poem the speaker goes through the three stages of an eulogy: grief and sorrow, praise and admiration, then consolation and solace. He also goes to and reverts back to depicting his relationship with the dog as master & pet vs. friendship. He has to console himself, saying the dog will go to heaven, and “at least he was buried”. It was written in Spanish and translated to English by Alfred Yankauer.
