A humanoid robot conducted a real life orchestra in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, the name of the opera being Scary Beauty, written by Japanese composer Keiichiro Shibuya. Below he is propelled and moved around by a mechanical arm, as he controls the volume and the tempo with the movement of his hands, which are covered in skin-like silicon to help the musicians.

Kotobuki Hikaru, an android technician, explained that the android is moving according to its own will, and incorporates its own reinterpretation of the score into its movements, As a part of a structural program in which the score elements are inserted into independent and autonomous actions. Multiple people are commenting that an android conducting the orchestra does not make any sense, since like other forms of art, it requires a human with emotions and energy to make the art convey feelings, which a robot is not able to feel.
