jan 1, 2019 - Trump on show
Description:
Trump on Show is a four-hours Cantonese Opera about Donald Trump, and was written and produced by Li Kui-ming in 2019. The show begins with Ivanka Trump (Trump’s daughter) with a suitcase, ready to move into the White House, and after she discovers a copy of Mao Zedong’s Little Red Book, which details ideas on class struggle by the founding chairman of modern communist China, starts the story about 26 years old Trump personally funding Richard Nixon’s 1972 China trip to meet Chairman Mao Zedong, and crashing into their diplomatic dinner. Then he finds out his long lost twin brother, who saves Liu Shaoqi from Red Guards and sings “Eidelweiss” (a song from the sound of music about love and happiness) to his girlfriend Peili before she escapes to the U.S. After intermission the story reverts back to 2018 Trump as the president, presented as Ivanka’s puppet ruler.
Li Kui Ming explains the show is not about international politics, but rather just uses current political characters to grab attention.
