While the Russian Flyorov always identified primarily as a scientist, he never produced illustrations based on actual data. He regularly disregarded skeletal remains and rarely consulted paleontologists on their behaviour or anatomy. Flyorov often created his beasts by taking modern animals and adding spikes, tusks, humps, and horns.
