jan 1, 79 - Pompeii go brrrrrrrrr
Description:
Pompeii is an ancient Roman city, it was preserved with amazing detail due to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Even today, years after the discovery of the city, archaeologists still find out more about it. First of all, Pompeii had about 100 one way streets, a complex water system, an amphitheater, a gymnasium and a port. In addition, the city was also the trademark place for fish sauce production during Roman times. fish sauce was one of the most consumed foods in the ancient diet. Pompeii produced it for a long time, until they stopped when large-scale manufacturers from Spain came to Italy with larger quantities and lower prices. To add on to that, By studying the remaining trash, scientists found out two things about the Roman diet: first, it was very rich. Second, they fed their livestock different meals to make them taste a certain way. In addition, They also found out that as the bodies of the people decomposed, they left “molds” in the ash, which when poured plaster in could show the complete figures of these people at their very last moments.
Today, the city is falling apart and in order to preserve it, scientists are currently working on making a digital pompeii using laser scanners, for it to be used by future historians and archaeologists.
