jan 1, 1485 - Richard the III died
Description:
Richard III (1452-1485) was the King of England and the last king of the House of York. His death at the Battle of Bosworth Field (the last decisive battle of the Wars of the Roses) marked the end of the Middle Ages in England, and the rise of the House of Tudor to the English throne. He was said to have been later buried in “Greyfriars Church'' in the city of Leicester which is thought to have been destroyed during the reign of Henry VIII. Archeologists compared old and new maps and determined the location of the church was in the area of the parking lot. They excavated there and found a body, and later confirmed using DNA tests that the remains were indeed Richard's. In addition, They also found out he wasn’t nearly as much of a hunchback as Shakespeare described him to be ("poisonous bunch-backed toad.") he had scoliosis - he had an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine. He was re-buried at Leicester Cathedral in 2015.
