jan 1, 1600 - The dodo went extinct
Description:
The bird’s extinction was because of it being hunted by predators and humans in the early 1600s, less than a century after its discovery. This called attention to the previously unrecognized problem of human involvement in the disappearance of entire species, becoming a symbol of extinction. As to de-extinction efforts, a full genome of the dodo has been constructed by Oxford University’s labs, but that still doesn’t allow us to clone the bird from a cell, since cloning birds is different from cloning mammals.
