jan 1, 1974 - Lawrence Halprin, first momorial
Description:
Halprin designed it to be accessible to disabled people of all kinds and levels as an acknowledgement to Roosevelt’s condition. He included wheelchair ramps, braille, and more. The memorial itself, however, only showed FDR as people saw him during his life - only a hint of disability, in the statue by Neil Estern he sat in a chair with small wheels.
