dec 28, 1894 - The Cinematograph
Description:
Antoine Lumiere was a photographer and a successful businessman. One day he went to see a demonstration of Thomas Edison's kinetoscope. He noticed that it was incredibly expensive and very big. He realised if he was to make a new camera that was smaller, lighter and cheaper he would make lots of money. So when he went back home to France he told his two sons Auguste and Louis that they needed to make a new camera. So they did. They named it the cinematograph. The camera was smaller and lighter. Also a lot cheaper. This meant that more people were able to use them. Also with the kinetoscope only one person could view the images at a time. Whereas the Lumiere Brothers were able to project there images for more people to see at the same time. The Lumiere went of to make a few films. The first one was called workers coming out of the Lumiere factory. It was shown in a cafe in front of lots of people which had never been done before.
