jan 1, 1957 - 1957 CONSERVATION OF FISH

Description:

The supreme court in 1957 confirmed that the Indigenous people had the right to fish in their usual and accustomed grounds. They also proved that their fishing does not harm the conservation of the fish. Preservation of fish is often used as an excuse to argue against native fishing rights. Although, most of the fish is caught commercially, only 2-5% is caught by the tribes. After a few years, the rules would be mixed and become more confusing. At some point, the tribal people had the standards applied to them the same as US citizens.
