Francois Magendie
Publishes on Sensory
and Motor Nerves
Description:
Known as "Bell-Magendie Law" despite the fact that (1) he was unaware of Bell's work and (2) his theory is the accurate/represented one
Found that the posterior roots of the spinal cord controlled sensation, whereas the anterior roots controlled motor responses.
Provides anatomical foundation for further study of the two sides of reflex: sensation and movement
Distinction implied that nerves send messages in a single direction and that there are different sensory and motor tracts within the spinal cord and perhaps different sensory and motor regions within the brain
