Gall originated phrenology - developed ideas about localization in his youth (created seed for doctrine of the skull)

Spurzheim coined the term "phrenology"
-->soon branches off to create phrenology's "5 Main Principles":
1) The brain is the organ of the mind
2) The mind is composed of a large number of cognitive and affective faculties
3) Each faculty is located in a specific brain area that is consistent among humans
4) Some people can have more of a given faculty - those who do have more brain tissue in the corresponding location
5) 'Doctrine of the Skull' - skull shape corresponds with brain shape, so the strength of certain faculties can be determined by skull shape.
