The Mexican American War was a war fought between the U.S. and the United Mexican States.Cause: U.S. President James K. Polk offered to purchase land between the Nueces River and Rio Grande River. The offer was rejected. Angered by the rejection, President Polk moved American Troops into the territory. United Mexican Forces attacked the U.S. troops in the territory.
