aug 12, 1969 - Battle of Bogside

Description:

The Apprentice Boys staged a march at Derry of around 30,000 people. The march was a tradition based on when 13 young apprentices defied their governor and closed the city gates to King James invading army. However, the march (unsurprisingly) resulted in violence. The rioting lasted for 50 hours. Police would try to maintain the riots to not spread throughout the city. Bogsiders would throw rocks and petrol bombs on the top of buildings.
