In January the British intercepted a telegram that foreign German minister Arthur Zimmerman sent to the German ambassador in Mexico where he encouraged Mexico to attack America if the U.S. joins the Allies.The Telegram was then published to the U.S. on this day, putting more pressure on America to join the war.
