Roman Dictator, Julius Caesar is assassinated by a group of senators at age 55, the Theatre of Pompey in Rome. He was stabbed 23 times. The perpetrators claimed to be acting over fears that Caesars unprecedented concentration of power during his dictatorship was underwhelming the Roman Republic. Up to 70 senators were party to the conspiracy, led by Marcus Junius Brutus, Gaius Cassius Longinus and Decimus Junius Brutus Albinus
