jan 1, 1996 - Mars Global Surveyor
Description:
The Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) was an American space probe developed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and launched in November 1996. It was a mapping mission that evaluated the entire planet, from the ionosphere to the atmosphere to the surface[1]. As part of the Mars Exploration Program, the Mars Global Surveyor acted as a relay for subsequent orbiters during the aerobraking phase, and assisted rover and lander missions to Mars by identifying potential landing sites and acting as a relay.
