Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was standing on the balcony of his second-floor room and was shot dead by 40-year-old, James Earl Ray. James Earl Ray had already committed several crimes in the past, including a burglary in California, an armed robbery of a taxi driver, mail fraud, and an armed robbery of a Kroeger store. He was put in prison for these crimes, but he escaped. He was sentenced to 99 years in prison for killing Martin Luther King Jr. He also escaped prison there but was caught three days later. Martin Luther King Jr.'s death was very tragic for America's Civil Rights movement. Martin Luther King Jr.'s last words were "Ben, make sure you play 'Take My Hand, Precious Lord' in the meeting tonight. Play it real pretty." Marting Luther King Jr. is still a role model to people around the world.
