apr 18, 1775 - Revere and Dawes Ride

Description:

Throughout the past months, relations between the 13 American Colonies and the British Monarchy were declining, and eventually got to a breaking point, especially in Massachusetts where patriots had already formed militia. The Governor of Massachusetts, British General Thomas Gage, ordered the British troops in Boston to seize all stores of weapons and war supplies that were available to the colonists, and start the march to Lexington and Concord. The moment they heard of the British plan, Paul Revere and William Dawes, an often forgotten member of this event, set off to warn the Massachusetts countryside that “The British are coming!”. In fact, they didn’t say “The British are coming!” they actually said “The lobsterbacks are coming!” because they technically were British. Their ride to organize militia at Lexington and Concord saved the future of this country, without them warning the patriots that fought at Lexington and Concord, the United States might not have existed.
