nov 2, 1783 - Washington Steps Down from Commander in Chief
Description:
Once the Revolutionary War was officially over, the glorious George Washington finally stepped down from his title as Commander and Chief of the Continental Army to live a peaceful life at Mount Vernon. Before he was the Commander and Chief of the Continental Army, he was actually a failed British military officer in the French and Indian War. In many ways, he wanted to prove to the British that letting go of him was a mistake, and he proved himself right. Washington did many amazing things while commanding the Continental Army, including keeping a rag-tag team of colonists together and fighting for the same goal, which was, and still is, a huge accomplishment. Stepping down from this important role, he made a farewell speech. In this, he emotionally gave back his commission to the body that bestowed it upon him, and retired to life at Mount Vernon, only to get called back as the nation’s first president.
