During the dawn of the Cold War, The U.S. Army Air Forces announced that they recovered remnants of a “flying disc” from a New Mexico ranch. Later, officials quickly backtracked, claiming the debris actually came from a downed “weather balloon". Following lots of skepticism decades later, the Air Force admitted they’d made up that story to cover the fact that the wreckage came from an aerial spy device part of a classified project called Project Mogul. Conspiracy theories still endure about captured aliens and government cover-ups despite these admissions.
