apr 18, 1942 - Doolittle's Raid/Tokyo Raid

Description:

Doolittle’s raid was an important part of World War II. This was an air bombing raid and was named after the captain of the raid James H. Doolittle. The Raid took place by bombing Japan's city of Tokyo and the main cause of it was to damage Japan's material-making factories and to strike fear in their people. this took place because it was a very tough place in the war where the Germans were defeating the Allied forces and Japan was unstoppable in the Pacific. This mission accomplished little in the fact of the bombing but it accomplished major psychologically. The United States used this as a recruiting tool to recruit new members of the Air Force and it made Japan extend itself too much, making them easy to attack. The attack consisted of 16 B16 bombers that flew into Tokyo and bombed it. most of the soldiers made it back but some did not. This includes Lieutenant William Farrow and Sergeant Harold Spatz. Overall this attack set up other attacks from the US and it was a turning point in the war against Japan.
