may 7, 1945 - Germany Surrenders
Description:
The German surrender was the mark that ended the war in Europe. The Germans surrendered because they were in an impossible situation. After their advances had tried to take over Russia and France had failed they had no other option but to surrender. The Allies were pushing through Germany and taking over many parts of it at a massive pace. They also took over Berlin and Hitler had committed suicide hidden in an underground bunker. The Germans had no other option but to surrender. The man who surrendered and signed the document was Alfred Jodl, the chief of staff of the German army. This was an unconditional surrender that marked Germany was not going to attack any more Allied troops at the mark of 2301 Hours on the 8th of May and on the year of 1945. This was a very big moment in World War II as it ended most of the wars in Europe and the only enemy left to defeat was Japan and that was the United States' job and their job alone.
