D-Day was one of the biggest battles in World War ii. It was a battle where Americans, Canadians, British, and French troops invaded back France. Germany had taken France at the start of the war and the Allies wanted to take it back to rescue France from Axis control. The battle included false deception and making the Germans think that the Allies were going to attack in another place than Normandy, the place where they attacked. They attacked Normandy with the largest force of troops that have been seen ever at the time of the invasion. They did this by having ships drop them off and then they would storm the beaches. Running straight into German machine gun fire and bombs. The beaches were covered with land mines and there were bunkers filled with machine guns all over the beach. It was hard to get five steps without dying. The Allies lost at least 4,000 men and 4,000 families could not see members of them again. D-Day was a giant success though. It gave the Allied troops a building spot and it allowed them to take back France and to start taking back all of Europe.
