jan 1, 1320 - The Declaration of Arbroath

Description:

The Declaration of Arbroath was a document drawn up by the Scottish after they had gained Independence from England, however Edward II said that the Scottish throne was rightfully his so the Scottish drew up the Declaration of Arbroath and sent it to the pope as a letter declaring that they should not be under Enlgish rule and that Scotland is a free country.
Why this mattered:
1. It declared Robert Bruce as the king of Scotland.
2. It gave the Scottish citizens rights and declared Scotland as a free land.
3. It was a large inspiration and helped shape our Declaration of Independence.
