jan 1, 2001 - Lying with the Wolf
Description:
"Lying with the Wolf" is a sculpture created by the Canadian artist Michael Belmore in 1991. The sculpture depicts a human figure lying on its back with a wolf standing over it, and is carved from black marble. The work is intended to explore the relationship between humans and nature, and to challenge the viewer's assumptions about the hierarchy of power between the two. The sculpture is considered a significant example of contemporary Indigenous art in Canada, and a commentary on the ongoing impact of colonization on Indigenous peoples and their relationship with the natural world.
