Description:
The US Senate approved the agreement, which was negotiated by President John F. Kennedy and signed by the US, the Soviet Union, and the UK, in 1964. The treaty forbade the testing of nuclear weapons in the atmosphere, in outer space, and under water. It was a significant step in easing Cold War tensions between the superpowers and halting the spread of nuclear weapons.
